We know that every process of change is necessarily slow or gradual, but also that the new paradigms end up breaking through, with effort, although almost inevitably, as they overcome resistance and strengthen their foundations little by little. And this is precisely what we are living in the delicate educational context, where we finally begin to operate following new (or not so new) discoveries, such as multiple intelligences, including the so-called interpersonal intelligence, a little neglected still, to tell the truth, in the educational field. But there is no doubt that everything will change in education. Or better: it is already changing.

Because coaching, understood as a process of accompaniment focused on the needs of those who decide to embark on it (a process that identifies limitations, yes, but focused on the development or discovery of skills and tools that allow us to overcome our barriers) has reached The education. And he has done it to stay. But what is educational coaching its like Business Coaching?

Perhaps the most immediate way to define it is with a single word: tools, although we do not refer to any type of instrumental procedure, but to tools focused on learning or, to put it more directly, the tools necessary to learn and teach better. The proposal of educational coaching is not, of course, a magical or alchemical cypher, but a methodology that is both open and precise, a methodology that seeks personal and professional development through the conscious search for changes in perspective that allow us to increase our motivation, responsibility, and commitment and always focused on the empowerment of true learning. Why Coaching from applied to education seeks to promote change at a cognitive, emotional and behavioral level with the aim of expanding our capacity for action.

The experiential methodology

We are not talking here about managerial discipline or learning, because it is not about that. On the contrary, educational coaching seeks to promote the creation of favorable conditions for learning and the transmission of knowledge. It is, in short, a methodology with deep and firm roots in an experiential conception of personal learning and growth, which encourages teachers and students to reach practical solutions through self-reflection. And this in at least three different levels, since the educational coaching works in the co-creation and development of specific executive tools for the managers of the centers (institutes, colleges and even universities), but also (and above all) in the teaching processes, teamwork and development of communicative skills of teachers; and, finally, in the metacognition of the students themselves, in the awareness of the learning process itself , in the appropriate tools for an effective and assertive management of conflicts and in the development of emotional intelligence.

The work on these three levels (management, faculty, and students) is the basis of the new educational paradigm, a paradigm where traditional roles are redefined: the teacher will now be a guide that accompanies the student in the learning process, a creator of spaces Non-managerial learning focused on the holistic development of students. For teachers, coaching tools allow them to explore and be aware of their own mistakes or limitations, establishing strategies for modification or improvement, helping them to set up educational environments and more experiential strategies and, ultimately, more enriching for who should be the protagonist of learning: the student.

One could, of course, ask about the concrete benefits for the student of this new methodology, and the answer is one of the keys to any coaching process, always focused on the improvement of individual performance from an adaptive perspective, that is, with enough flexibility to detect and take advantage of the abilities or strengths of individual students. Because the key is to focus on the potential of each of the students. And here coaching has a lot to say.
